What is Domain? A to Z Domain explanation

If you are a beginner then you must have heard about the domain name. So let’s know what is domain and how do we use it in our website?

If you are a beginner, then you hear so many technical words like domain name with the website and with hosting service. All such various terms can sound too complicated if you just start out.

But there is nothing to worry about: in this guide, I will tell you everything related to the domain one by one, which a beginner should know. What is it? and lots of interesting things related to it.

I have represented the domain name as DN several times further, So don’t panic.

So now let’s start without delay

What is a domain name (DN)?

You can consider the DN  as an address of your website, which people can search on your browser’s URL and visit your website.

If I say the same thing in a simple language, then the website is your home and the domain is your home address.

Now let’s look at some definitions of DN.

The address where Web users connect the website is a domain name. For the naming of machines on the Internet, a domain name is used. Computers are using numerical IP addresses like

However, people can not recall numerical lines. As a result, domain names were created and used instead of using IP addresses to define entities on the Internet.

You can easily go to the website by searching the DN in your browser URL.

What is DN examples?

Techiezee.com, newcarishere.in, visitorgaming.game, healthyxpo.fit are some examples of DN in which the first one is DN and after the dot(.)  it is an extension like .com, .in .game, etc.

Why you need a Domain or What is the purpose of it?

Your DN is the only identity on the Internet. Investing in the name of it should be a person, company, or organization that intends to be online.

You will get a more detailed look at your own DN, website, and email addresses.

Another purpose a company registers its domain name is to protect copyrights and trademarks, create credibility, increase brand recognition and position search engine.

Types of domain

DN are with different types of extensions, the most popular of which .com. There are many other options like .org, .net, .tv, .info, .edu, and more.

Each DN has a suffix indicating the top-level domain (TLD) to which it belongs. The number of these domains is small. Examples include:

  • gov – Government agencies
  • edu – Educational institutions
  • org – Organizations (nonprofit)
  • mil – Military
  • com – commercial business
  • net – Network organizations

1) Top-level domain – TLD

TLD is the most updated standard domain extension of the domain name scheme.

Hundreds of TLD’s are available, but the most common are .com,.org and.net. We don’t suggest the use of other TLDs, they’re less known. .biz,.club,.info,.agency, and much more.

2) Country Top Level Domain-ccTLD

ccTLD are region-specific domain names ending in the U.K. country code extension, ccTLD.

They are used by websites targeted at audiences in a specific country.

3) Supported Top Level Domain – sTLD

Supported top-level domain or sTLD is a TLD category with a sponsor that represents a particular domain extension group.

.edu to educational organisations,.gov to the US government,.mil to the US military, and many more, for exam

4) Subdomain

Subdomain is a part of your DN, if you want to create some other website related to your domain, then you can use the subdomain in it.

For example:– game.techiezee.com in this ‘game’ is your subdomain, ‘techiezee’ is your main domain, and the .com is your TLD (Top level domain) extension. You can use any keyword as your subdomain.

5) Premium domain

A DN still owned by an individual or corporation is normally out of the market. However, another proprietary may be licensed, this is classified as premium domain names.

Who is Responsible for the Domain Name System (DNS)?

A much wider network called the Domains Name System (DNS) is used for DN.

The Assigned Names and Numbers Internet Corporation (ICANN) administers the DN program. It is a non-profit organization which develops and applies DN laws.

For selling domain names, ICANN authorizes companies called DN Registrars. Such registrars may make changes to the list of DN on your behalf.

As the owner of the domain, you may tell the registrar where you can submit requests. The renewal of your identity registration always is your duty.

What is a DNS Server?

The DNS server tells your user where you want to go when you browse a URL (the internet address where the web site is located).

How to check what is my DNS?

I tell you a website where you can check your DNS online. – whatsmydns

From this website, you can simply check your DN server.

Is DN different from website and web hosting?

Many beginners find it very difficult to differentiate between DN and website, web hosting. So let’s talk about this too.

If I say it in a simple language, then the website is your home and the domain is your home address, as I mentioned earlier.

But there has been a new word add here that is: web hosting, so we can consider web hosting as a place where our website lives.

This is the actual machine that stores the files on your website. Such machines are called servers, and hosting companies sell them as a service.

You need both DN and hosting to build your website.

How to Choose a DN for Your Website?

At this time, more than 300 million domain names are registered, and thousands of DN are registered in at least one day.

This means that a lot of good domains have already been registered and some remaining: they too will be registered very soon.

So here I tell you some things that you should remember while registering a new DN.

  • Use the .com extension for your website because it is easily remembered by everyone.
  • It should not be too long and it should not be such that people cannot read it.
  • Easy to read and make sense and help in to represent your website
  • Do not use numbers or hyphens
  • Use some online domain generators websites

How to Buy a Domain Name?

Domain names may be purchased from one of the various registrars of DN. Some popular DN companies are:

  1. Godaddy
  2. Domain.com

You can easily buy it from the following some process.

You will also need a website hosting account as well.

How to Transfer a DN?

Yes, you read it right, we can also transfer our domain name from one registrar to another. But there are some conditions for that. Let’s see that too.

  1. Your DN must be at least 60 days old or older.
  2. The DN must not be in Pending Delete status.
  3. The authorization code of it (also known as EPP code) should be given.

Can I sell a domain name?

Yes, you can also sell it. DN are like real estate for the internet.
